You do not need to have a clear criminal record check or child abuse registry check to take the Manitoba Security Guard Training Program (MSGTP) course.
You must have a criminal record and child abuse registry check when you apply for a Security Guard licence.
If you need a Criminal Record Check and have not yet applied for it, we highly recommend the Commissionaires as a source. They are prompt, often producing a check in 48 hours or less, and have lots of free parking nearby. They are located at 290 Burnell St. in Winnipeg, near the intersection of Portage Ave. and Arlington St. Their telephone number is 204 942-5993.
Also, to obtain a Security Guard licence, you will need a clear Child Abuse Registry Check. This is available in only one place and you can apply online at http://manitoba.ca/fs/abuseregistries.html.
You can also apply in person. The address is - The Child Protection Agency, 777 Portage Ave. Winnipeg.
The Child Abuse Registry Check can take four to six weeks, so apply online as soon as you can - preferably before you start your training.
